A dessert topping described as totally free of sugar, calories, fat, and cholesterol might expect to be greeted with skepticism regarding taste.
But in June, Sweet ‘N Low® brand’s Strawberry Flavored Syrup laid any “too-good-to-be-true” doubts to rest when the National Board of the American Tasting Institute presented the new product its prestigious Gold Medal American Tasting Award of Excellence.
It wasn’t a first for Sweet ‘N Low Sugar Free Flavored Syrups. In 1999, the brand’s Chocolate flavored syrup received the award. Also last year, the chocolate syrup was selected for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores’ “Best Product” award at their annual meeting.
Vanilla Creme Sugar Free Flavored Syrup completes the Sweet ‘N Low line. The three flavors come in 17-18-ounce squeeze bottles and sell for $2.99 suggested retail.
The syrups are ideal for topping ice cream, frozen yogurt, fresh fruit, pancakes, and waffles. They can be used as an ingredient in baking, and are delicious stirred in milk.
The appeal is obvious for both calorie-counters and those who are medically restricted from sugars and fats. Sweet ‘N Low’s syrups are designated as a “proud partner” with the Diabetes Research Institute.

By GlobalDataThe syrup’s maker, The Old Fashioned Syrup Company, spent two years and over three-quarters of a million dollars researching and formulating the product. As a licensee of Cumberland Packing Corporation for the exclusive use of the renowned Sweet ‘N Low® name on its syrups, the Company also benefited from some ready-made brand awareness.
Still, in a fiercely competitive environment where thousands of new products are introduced every year, Sweet ‘N Low Syrup’s swift acceptance by expert tasters and everyday consumers alike is remarkable.
CEO Alan Posner explained the product’s success. “It all goes back to taste. Sweet ‘N Low even beat out competing brands’ sugared syrups in blind taste tests. All the flavor — with no sugar, no fat, no guilt.”
The Chocolate flavored Sweet ‘N Low contains only 10 calories per tablespoon, none from fat. The other two flavors, Strawberry and Vanilla Creme, have zero calories.
Posner said a substantial marketing budget is planned to support the product’s winning formula. Advertising has already begun in selected cities to tout Sweet ‘N Low’s award-winning, “no guilt” taste.
The Old Fashioned Syrup Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Meridian USA Holdings, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MUSD). More information about Sweet ‘N Low® brand Sugar Free Flavored Syrups is on the web at www.sugarfreesyrup.com.
