Doug Stewart, Vice Chairman and CEO, Sobey’s Inc. today announced the launch of Grocery Innovations Canada, a new national trade exposition that will support and promote the country’s $64 billion food industry. Scheduled for October 22nd to 24th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Grocery Innovations Canada signals the first time Canada’s leading corporate and government food organizations have joined forces to produce an annual world class exposition. The announcement was made during the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors Annual Convention in Halifax.
Grocery Innovations Canada is a partnership venture among the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors (CCGD), the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG), the Canadian Food Brokers Association (CFBA) and the Food and Consumer Products Manufacturers of Canada (FCPMC), and is supported by Agriculture and Agri Food Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The trade show and conference will be an annual focal point for the grocery industry with an attendance comprised of senior industry executives, retailers, buyers and distributors from Canada and abroad.
Like its predecessor Grocery Showcase Canada, produced by the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers, this new exposition will continue to serve the needs of the domestic retail market, while expanding the event’s role to include all sectors of Canada’s food and grocery industry into one important trade show and conference. These new corporate and government associations and alliances will make GIC the country’s largest and most authoritative annual grocery industry showcase, increasing industry business opportunities both domestically and internationally.
With issues such as consolidation of the grocery channel, technological change, globalization, north south trade and the challenges of small and medium sized processors at the forefront of all sectors, show partners agree that collectively they can produce a stronger event which better reflects the strength and leadership of Canada’s grocery industry.
It is anticipated that GIC will eventually double the 690 exhibits seen at the previous industry show. The new floor plan will provide a clear and concise industry snapshot with sections devoted to technology, store infrastructure and equipment, retail services, grocery, produce, meat/deli/seafood, international foods and whole health.
The show will feature the newest grocery marketing trends, merchandising initiatives and leading edge technology at a series of interactive Pavilions and seminars. The event is working cooperatively with the federal government to attract international participants, and the program includes opportunities for both international exhibitors and visiting delegates to meet key contacts. Industry seminars aimed at specific sectors of the grocery industry will take place on Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Grocery Innovations Canada is a non-profit trade event produced in partnership with the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors (CCGD), the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG), the Canadian Food Brokers Association (CFBA) and the Food and Consumer Products Manufacturers of Canada (FCPMC).
