US confectionery company Hershey Foods has announced that David J. West, senior vice president of business planning and development, has been named senior vice president of sales, effective 1 December 2002.
West joined Hershey in May 2001 as vice president of business planning and development, with responsibility for internal and external corporate development as well as for corporate-wide business planning processes. He was promoted to senior vice president of business planning and development in June 2002. Prior to joining Hershey, he was senior vice president/chief financial officer of Nabisco Biscuit and Snacks Group, with responsibility for leading the financial function of Kraft Foods’ biscuits, confections and salty snacks businesses.
Hershey Foods has also announced that Milton T. Matthews, vice president and chief customer officer, will retire in mid-2004. Effective 1 December 2002, as part of an orderly transition process, Matthews will report to West.
Matthews joined Hershey Foods as a sales representative in 1972. In 1977, he was promoted to manager of sales planning and in 1981 to director of sales development. He was named vice president of sales for Hershey Chocolate USA in 1989 and, in 1999, was promoted to vice president of US sales for Hershey Foods Corporation. He was named vice president and chief customer officer in June 2001. Prior to joining Hershey Foods, Matthews was a Captain in the United States Marine Corps.
