New Orleans will welcome around 20,000 visitors and 1,000 exhibitors this week for the 2001 Annual Meeting of the Institute of Food Technologists. The meeting, which opened yesterday, has already prompted much excitement in the trade press.

According to FoodNavigator.com, Ojai Organics, an ingredients sourcing company in the US, took the opportunity of the meeting to launch its organic non-GMO lecithin, which “represents a breakthrough for organic and natural products manufacturers seeking quality emulsifying ingredients,” according to Ojai president George Kalogridis.

FoodNavigator.com has also reported on an announcement from the US arm of Kerry Ingredients detailing a reorganisation of the company’s operations, into four separate business units: Kerry Coatings, Kerry Seasonings, Kerry Specialty Ingredients and Kerry Sweet Ingredients. Two additional businesses will also be formed: Kerry Foodservice Solutions Group and Kerry Ingredients Canada.

“Kerry […] needs to be organised in a way that breeds innovation,” said McIntyre, head of the new Kerry Ingredients in the US and Canada.
