SilverStream Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: SSSW), The eBusiness Platform Company, today announced that Imperial Sugar Company (NYSE: IHK) has selected the SilverStream Application Server as the power behind its recently deployed e-business portal applications.

As the leading supplier of bulk sugar and sweetener in the U.S, Imperial Sugar Company developed and deployed its innovative, company-wide online community with the SilverStream Application Server to enable Imperial Sugar’s 1,425 employees and management to stay up to date on corporate information and human resources information. Imperial Sugar’s new corporate portal enables employees to more rapidly access critical day-to-day information, while providing management with the tools to effectively evaluate and track employee satisfaction, as well as a corporate dashboard for tracking strategic performance measurements.

The new corporate portal consists of approximately 100 applications which provide employee-driven features such as a news system, on-line system surveys, an anonymous “suggestion box” and access to the company’s 401K retirement plan, as well as simple, intuitive access to frequently requested information including the corporate phone directory and meeting room availability schedules. The corporate portal is built upon a Portal Framework, which provides core features including Personalization, Content Management, a Component Framework, a WorkFlow component as well as an extensive library of other Components.

“The SilverStream powered portal is changing the way our employees access corporate information and approach administrative tasks that previously relied on manual tracking systems and multiple people to complete successfully,” said Mark Clemmons, Web and Database Manager, Imperial Sugar. “Building and implementing the system with SilverStream was much faster than if we had chosen another application server. SilverStream was supportive throughout the process and we were able to `go live’ with the initial phase in six weeks versus other solutions which would have required up to three months or longer.”

Imperial Sugar plans to develop additional corporate management and reporting applications using the SilverStream Application Server over the next few months as well as develop an Extranet portal which will allow our customers to access legacy information stored on IBM mainframe and AS400 as well as PeopleSoft systems.

“We are very pleased that the SilverStream Application Server provides Imperial Sugar with the power they need to support its employee online community,” said David Skok, chairman and founder of SilverStream Software. “Imperial Sugar’s decision to rely on SilverStream for its corporate portal demonstrates SilverStream’s ability to address a multitude of enterprise issues with e-business solutions that deliver improved employee communication, streamlined business processes and enhancements.”
