Fleming (NYSE:FLM) today announced Jack Baker is retiring from both Baker’s Supermarkets as Chief Executive Officer and as a member of Fleming’s Board of Directors.

His retirement will be effective in June 2000.

Baker’s Supermarkets operates 16 supermarkets in Nebraska. For 27 consecutive years Baker’s has been the most preferred supermarket company in its Omaha trade area.

Baker and his brother Robert began their grocery careers working with their parents, Abe and Helen Baker, who founded Baker’s Supermarkets in 1926. He was named Chief Executive Officer of Baker’s in 1992 when Baker’s was acquired by Fleming. Baker became a member of Fleming’s Board of Directors in 1996.

I look forward to spending more time with my family and at PDM, our family-owned property development business.” Baker is the president and CEO of PDM, Inc., which owns, develops, and manages shopping centers and commercial properties. “My wife and I will continue to be involved in the Omaha community,” said Baker. “We live in a wonderful city, and we want to return the generous support our area has given our family and Baker’s Supermarkets throughout the years.”

He is currently a member of the STRATCOM Consultation Committee, a governor of the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben, and a board member of United Way of the Midlands/CHAD. Fleming is an industry leader in distribution and has a growing presence in value retailing and business-to-business e-commerce. Fleming’s primary business is buying and selling merchandise. Fleming serves some 3,000 supermarkets, supercenters, discount, convenience, limited assortment, drug, specialty and other retail businesses across the country.
