HOUSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 12, 2001–SYSCO Corporation (NYSE:SYY) announced today that James W. Ehlers, senior vice president of sales at Sysco Food Services of San Francisco, Inc., a SYSCO subsidiary, has been appointed executive vice president of that company. Mr. Ehlers will assume his new responsibilities July 1, 2001, the beginning of SYSCO’s fiscal year 2002.
Richard J. Schnieders, president and chief operating officer of SYSCO, said Mr. Ehlers, 45, began his SYSCO career in 1980 as a marketing associate at Allied-Sysco Food Services, the predecessor company to Sysco Food Services of San Francisco, Inc. He advanced to district sales manager in 1987, was named regional sales manager in 1991, and in 1995 he was promoted to vice president of marketing. In 1997 Mr. Ehlers was appointed to his current position.
A native of Oakland, California, Mr. Ehlers attended the University of the Pacific and the University of California – Berkeley. He and his wife Robin have three children and reside in San Leandro, California.
