Following Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi’s long space walk this
week, he may be tucking into the first instant noodles designed for
space with his colleagues aboard the US shuttle Discovery.

Overcoming the usually sloppy method of eating instant noodles, or
ramen as it is known in Japan, Nissan Foods have come up with ball
shaped noodles that can be slurped out easily from their special space
packaging.

Nor do the noodles require to be heated with boiling water. A special
combination of starch and flour means the ramen can be cooked at the
relatively low temperature of 70 degrees C.
