Kellogg USA announced this weekend at the 2000 United States Olympic Committee Media Summit/Sydney Preview that it will be teaming up with eight Olympic hopefuls for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney: Maurice Greene, Marion Jones, Lenny Krayzelburg, Jenny Thompson, Amy Chow, Mark Ruiz, Leah O’Brien-Amico and Alison Dunlap.

To extend the spirit of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team to America’s breakfast tables, special commemorative packages of Kellogg’s® cereal featuring the athletes will begin hitting store shelves nationwide in August.

Track and field stars Maurice Greene and Marion Jones – considered the Fastest Man and Fastest Woman in the world — will appear together on boxes of Kellogg’s® Frosted Flakes® cereal. Boxes of Kellogg’s® Crispix® cereal will feature swimming champions Lenny Krayzelburg and Jenny Thompson. Together, these athletes have a chance to win up to 15 gold medals at the Games.

Kellogg also will be partnering with gymnast Amy Chow, softball team member Leah O’Brien-Amico, mountain biker Alison Dunlap and diver Mark Ruiz, some of whom will also appear on special edition Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes cereal boxes in specific grocery store chains.

“Kellogg is proud to support the efforts of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team by working with these premier athletes to bring their championship spirit into the homes of consumers nationwide,” said Jeff Montie, senior vice president and general manager, U.S. Ready-To-Eat Cereals, Kellogg Company. “We know these Olympic heroes serve as an inspiration to Americans of all ages.”

In February, Kellogg USA was named an Official Supplier to the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and the 2000, 2002 and 2004 U.S. Olympic Teams. The agreement with the Olympic Properties of the United States (OPUS) extends to all Kellogg’s cereal brands, as well as Pop-Tarts® toaster pastries and Eggo® waffles. Kellogg’s ready-to-eat cereals will be included on the training tables for athletes at all three U.S. Olympic Training Centers, leading up to the 2000, 2002 and 2004 Olympic Games, as well as in the Olympic Village during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
