Kraft Foods Holding Inc has won a temporary injunction against a Chicago artist who uses the name King VelVeeda on his website that mocks Kraft brands as well as its parent company, tobacco giant Philip Morris.
The order by the US District of Northern Illinois court forces Stuart Helm, owner of the cheesygraphics.com website, to stop referring to VelVeeda until a final hearing on Kraft’s trademark lawsuit against him is held, reports Chicago Business. No date has been set for the hearing.
The site pokes fun at Kraft brands as well providing links to satirical sites, including some of an adult nature. Kraft alleges that the use of VelVeeda on the site tarnishes its brand.
Helm has responded by documenting the row with Kraft on his site, which he has operated for three years. Complying with the letter of the law as imposed by the temporary injunction, Helm has revised each incidence of ‘VelVeeda’ with a banner reading ‘Censored by Kraft’.
