Swiss food giant Nestlé has said the company is still in talks with US regulators regarding its delayed takeover of Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, but declined to comment on a media report that US antitrust officials may now let the deal proceed.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, federal antitrust officials have reached a tentative agreement under which the takeover could go ahead providing Nestlé and Dreyer’s sell several brands of superpremium ice cream to Canada’s CoolBrands International, as well as substantial distribution assets.

The deal still needs approval by the five-member Federal Trade Commission, which isn’t expected to vote until Friday, said the report.
