US coffee house chain Starbucks is to offer a new line of malt-flavoured frappuccino drinks from April, in a move that is expected to boost the company’s summer sales.

“Our best guess is that these products could help add a percentage point or so to Starbucks’ same-store sales over the summer months,” Salomon Smith Barney restaurant analyst Mark Kalinowski wrote in a note to clients, as quoted by Reuters.

Starbucks has forecast same-store sales to rise between 3% and 7% this year. Since January 2002, Starbucks has not had a month with less than 6% growth.

Frappuccinos are cold, sweetened, whipped drinks flavoured with coffee, tea or fruit.
