eFruit International, creator and operator of online marketplaces for buyers and sellers of agricultural commodities, announced today an endorsement from New York Apple Association. The state association will recommend its members use eFruit’s JuiceMarketplace, FreshMarketplace, and FruitProcurement as their online trading platforms.
“After carefully and thoroughly reviewing the online marketplaces available to our growers, packers and shippers, the New York Apple Association is recommending its members use eFruit International’s marketplaces for fresh fruit and juice,” NYAA President Jim Allen said.
“We’re partnering with eFruit International in an effort to get more of our top quality apples sold around the world,” Allen said. “We want our members to consider the expansive sales opportunities that exist on the Internet via eFruit to better compete in the global marketplace.”
The New York Apple Association is the non-profit trade group representing the 674 commercial apple growers in New York State. Apples are the largest cash crop in New York agriculture, last year accounting for more than $150 million in revenues. More than 31 million bushels of apples were harvested in New York in 1999. It is the number-two apple producing state in the nation.
Of the approximately 25 to 30 million bushels of apples produced in New York each year, 43 percent are utilized as fresh fruit and 57 percent are utilized for processing. New York Apple Association members, therefore, can benefit from using all three of eFruit’s online marketplaces.
“By endorsing eFruit’s online marketplaces, New York Apple Association is enhancing its commitment to its members,” eFruit International President Gordon Hunt said. “Each of our targeted vertical marketplaces offers New York Apple Association members, as well as buyers and sellers of fresh fruit and juices worldwide, an unparalleled online trading platform along with access to the services provided by our partners. The Food Institute, United Parcel Service, Bureau Veritas and Freightgate, among others, allow us to offer the most comprehensive suite of services available online for the fresh fruit, vegetable, and fruit juice industries.”
