The Office International des Épizooties (OIE), the world animal health organisation, has announced that outbreaks of bird flu amongst US chicken flocks in Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey has been completely eradicated.

A low pathogenic strain of avian influenza had been detected in one non-commercial flock and one commercial flock in Delaware, one commercial flock in Maryland and two live-bird markets in New Jersey.

Affected flocks have been slaughtered and premises cleaned and disinfected, with nearby flocks being tested, (no flu was discovered). Meanwhile, the entire Delmarva Peninsula – shared by all three states and the focus of the outbreaks – is receiving additional bird flu checks.
