Appointment of Restaurant Technology Veteran Paves the Way for Continued Aggressive Growth
In a move that paves the way for continued aggressive growth in new and existing markets, OpenTable.com (www.opentable.com) today announced the appointment of hospitality technology veteran Jeffrey B. Edwards to the position of chief executive officer. The appointment will help OpenTable.com further its lead in supplying Internet-enabled customer relationship management, yield management and reservation management tools to restaurants worldwide.
Edwards, 45, most recently served as president and CEO of Micros-Fidelio, the international division of Micros Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:MCRS). Micros Systems is a provider of enterprise applications including software, systems integration, hardware and support to the hospitality industry. Micros’s products include an industry-leading point-of-sale (POS) system, as well as property management systems, customer information systems, back office, enterprise management and network communications products. The company has more than 110,000 installations in 130 countries around the world, and annual revenues in excess of $350 million.
“Jeff’s appointment gives OpenTable.com the experienced leadership we need to meet our aggressive expansion goals,” said Chuck Templeton, the company’s founder and former CEO, who remains chairman of the board of directors and assumes the title of executive vice president of product strategy. “His knowledge of the restaurant industry and his understanding of emerging opportunities made him the ideal candidate to take on the position of chief executive. In the year since we launched the world’s first real-time restaurant reservation network, we’ve grown from a ten person office serving 25 restaurants in one city, to a nationwide company with more than 175 employees and 600 of the nation’s best restaurants as customers. We’re very proud of the tools we have developed and the recognition OpenTable.com has received for leading the way in this emerging category, and we look forward to many more successes as we grow our network globally under Jeff’s leadership.”
“I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to work with the established leader in a rapidly emerging space, and am excited about OpenTable.com’s terrific potential,” said Edwards. “During my tenure at Micros I had the opportunity to learn a great deal about the dynamics of the restaurant industry, which is highly fragmented and always very demanding of its vendors. I am extremely impressed with the level of understanding that OpenTable.com’s team has of this industry and the high level of customer support that they have been able to maintain through their dynamic growth — their reputation for customer satisfaction is unmatched. OpenTable.com is one of very few companies that are successfully harnessing the power of the Internet for the restaurant industry. The company has developed products that will revolutionize the way that restaurants are managed and marketed. I look forward to being part of OpenTable.com’s continued success, and to growing this unique and powerful concept into an industry standard.”
