Now, with the addition of two-way messaging, offers a convenient and powerful way for Chefs to communicate with their suppliers, freeing the them from multiple phone calls and faxes and keeping up-to-the-minute information easily available. The messaging applet is completely contained within the same application used to perform their regular supply selection, ordering, receiving, inventory, plate-costing, and reporting activities.

By using the new messaging features, vendors of fresh items such as fish or produce will be able to let their customers know when supply conditions change (for example, when a new item comes into stock). They might also inform customers about changes in item specifications that are difficult to convey through a database-driven system, such as level of ripeness or precise color.

The new messaging features supplement the powerful catalog and search tools already present in the OrderSmart system. In addition to mapping vendor catalogs to a standardized database that is then searchable on a vendor-specific or vendor-independent basis, also provides vendors with the capability to upload a smart newsletter from which Chefs can click immediately through to an item of interest and add to their regular order.
