The US foodservice channel is a small but growing segment for natural and organic foods, with manufacturing shipments of natural and organic foods into foodservice expected to grow to $2bn by 2007, according to a new report.
The report, released this week by natural products business information service provider SPINS, examines the penetration of natural and organic meats and organic foods into foodservice.
In the US, manufacturing shipments of natural and organic meats and organic foods into foodservice totalled $330m in 2002, and shipments are expected to grow to almost $2bn by 2007, the 2004 Natural & Organic Foodservice Report said.
Over the last twenty years spending on food and beverages away from home has grown to $420bn, accounting for almost half of the total per capita spending on all food in the US.
