Shaw’s Supermarkets, a wholly owned subsidiary of UK-based J Sainsbury, has appointed Paul T. Gannon to president and COO, effective immediately.

This move reflects a transition of responsibility in anticipation of president Ross McLaren’s retirement. McLaren will remain as Shaw’s CEO but, as a member of the Sainsbury’s Group Executive Committee, will devote greater time to develop group synergies.

Working with McLaren, Scott W. Ramsay, currently executive VP and CFO, will take on the additional responsibilities of executive VP USA Group Services with particular responsibility for growth opportunities for Shaw’s. Both Ramsay and Gannon will report to Ross McLaren.

To further strengthen the Shaw’s Board, Nicola DiFelice, currently VP of non perishable buying, has been promoted to senior VP of marketing, reporting to Paul Gannon. This is a new position and effective immediately.

Ross McLaren stated: “On behalf of the Shaw’s Board, I am delighted by Paul’s appointment which, with the additional support from Scott and Nicola, will provide a smooth transition upon my retirement at a time where Shaw’s has exhibited a strong track record of growth and has ambitious plans for the future.”
