Turkey deli meat produced at the company’s Franconia, Pennsylvania plant was recalled after being identified as the most likely cause of a listeria outbreak in the summer of 2002 that caused a number of cases of illness, some of which proved fatal.
The company said its insurance policy will only cover the first $50m of the claim. The sale of turkey products from its Franconia plant is expected to return to pre-recall production levels during the second-half of fiscal 2004, reported the Wall Street Journal.
