US fruit grower and distributor Fresh Del Monte Produce has reported a 5.5% rise in quarterly earnings, helped by sales of new products such as the Del Monte Honey Gold pineapple.

The Florida-based company posted earnings of US$34.3m, or 60 cents a share, for the third quarter to 26 September, compared to $32.5m, or 57 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts had been expecting earnings of 57 cents a share, reported Dow Jones News Service.

Fresh Del Monte posted third-quarter sales of $563.7m, a rise of 13% compared to the year-ago period.
