US fastfood company Yum! Brands has reported a 3% rise in US same-store sales for the four weeks to 15 May, driven by strong sales at Pizza Hut.

Same-store sales at Pizza Hut rose 10%, while those at Taco Bell rose 3% and same-store sales at KFC fell 4%. The figures include company-owned restaurants only.

Yum! Brands said the timing of the Easter holiday positively impacted Taco Bell and Pizza Hut sales by around two percentage points each.

The company reported a 16% increase in international system sales, a rise of 7% in local currency terms.

Yum! Brands said sales were negatively impacted by the outbreaks of avian flu in several Asian markets earlier this year, but added that sales in all affected Asian markets, including China, have recovered.
