A court in Oklahoma has granted class action status to a lawsuit by lakefront property owners in Oklahoma who allege that waste runoffs from poultry processing operations damaged the value of their properties.

Plaintiffs in the case filed claims of common law public and private nuisance against defendants Tyson Foods, Simmons Foods and Peterson Farms. One part of the lawsuit seeks an injunction against the defendants, and the other part seeks financial compensation for impairment to the value of the lakefront properties.

Tyson Foods said it was disappointed with the court’s decision and said it would vigorously defend the case, reported Reuters.
