Supermarket Safeway is today (Wednesday) opening a new $175m distribution centre in Auburn, Washington, the culmination of a 2 1/2 year project which it says solidifies its position in the north west.

Governor Gary Locke will officiate as the ribbon cutter. The project
means an economic boost estimated at $40m dollars annually for the city of Auburn and 200 newly created jobs.

The centre includes a 538,000 square foot dry goods warehouse and a 515,000 square foot refrigerated warehouse. Combined with this are a recycling centre, trucking department, dispatch office, fuel station, truck repair shop and an administration centre.
