US grocery chain Shaw’s Supermarkets is planning to acquire control of 18 former Ames Department Store leases in New England. Shaw’s is reported to have an agreement to pay US$48.5m for leasing rights to 16 stores plus two stores still owned by Ames, subject to bankruptcy court approval and higher bids.
