SAN DIEGO, CA – Chicken of the Sea Intl. has become the first company to introduce premium, no-drain salmon in a vacuum-packed foil pouch.  The San Diego-based firm, which is the market leader in skinless/boneless canned salmon, said it expects to begin shipping to retailers in late January.

“Our research shows that great taste and convenience will differentiate Chicken of the Sea Premium Pink salmon in a pouch,” said Don George, senior vice president of marketing.  “And it’s the type of product that is conducive to repeat purchase.”

High in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, Chicken of the Sea Premium Pink Salmon in a pouch is healthy, too.  The 7.1 ounce pouch provides about four servings.

George said consumers who buy skinless/boneless pink salmon have similar demographics and psychographics as those that buy canned albacore.  “We’re talking about an informed, higher end consumer and a product that enjoys 25 percent household penetration,” he said.

Chicken of the Sea is the skinless/boneless canned salmon leader with 70 percent market share.  Chicken of the Sea’s skinless and boneless salmon was judged the best by the American Tasting Institute.
