Starbucks Coffee Company (Nasdaq:SBUX) announced yetserday the appointment of Brian Crynes as senior vice president and chief information officer. Crynes will lead the information technology organization to provide Starbucks with systems, processes and tools to support the Company’s ongoing delivery of the Starbucks Experience in locations around the world.

Crynes will direct Starbucks worldwide investments in technology and infrastructure that offer the best service and value, targeting competitive advantage, speed-to-market and enterprise integration through multi-tiered, multi-sourced and in-house solutions. The IT team will also enable high-impact business capabilities through enterprise customer relationship management, integrated supply chain management, scalable systems for financials and human resources and multi-channel sales and service systems.

“Brian’s 26 years of business experience have given him a solid background in both systems implementation and international leadership,” said Michael Casey, executive vice president, chief financial and chief administrative officer. “His management and technical skills will enable Brian to lead his team in developing strategic IT relationships, which will position Starbucks with global IT capabilities. I look forward to working with Brian to deliver an IT vision linked to Starbucks strategic business objectives, and I am confident that his skills and background make him an excellent addition to the Starbucks team.”

Before joining Starbucks, Crynes served as chief information officer at Coca-Cola Amatil in Sydney, Australia. In this position, he helped align IT and business strategy and developed a business systems roadmap that included a customer-centered e-business solution for various markets across Asia Pacific. He also established an overall business system strategy that enabled business units to localize common business solutions for their markets.

Crynes has also held senior management positions at world-class companies such as Bristol-Myers Squibb, Apple Computer, and the New York Daily News. He graduated from the University of Scranton with a bachelor of science, mathematics, in 1968 and received his master’s degree in business administration, finance, in 1972.
