US fastfood chain Subway Restaurants has announced that it has made changes to its Kids’ Pak meal to increase its nutritional content and will provide “Jared’s Steps to Healthier Kids” information cards in its restaurants.

In addition to the new Kids’ Pak, which will include a toy designed to encourage physical activity, the Subway chain is re-designing its subwaykids website to offer educational games and health information, the company said.

After research and product testing, Subway said its Kids’ Pak now consists of a fresh deli-style sandwich, a Minute Maid 100% fruit juice box and a General Mills Fruit Roll-Up fruit snack. The new Kids’ Pak has less fat, saturated fat and cholesterol than traditional burger and french fry fastfood meals, Subway said. In addition, the company said its Kids’ Pak includes a toy that encourages physical activities such as golf, kite flying and football.

Separately, Subway, which has nearly 20,000 outlets in 74 countries, announced that it has opened its 50th location in Germany.
