US-based sandwich chain Subway has said it has opened its 2,000th store outside the US and Canada.
The company now has over 21,000 outlets worldwide, with more than 275 stores open in the UK and Ireland.
Subway’s international locations now account for 9.5% of the entire Subway chain, a rise of 1.5% from a year ago. An additional 800 international locations are expected to open by the end of 2004.
“The Subway chain is experiencing phenomenal growth across the globe – especially in Europe. Reaching this important international milestone demonstrates that we are right on track toward achieving the goals of our worldwide strategic plan, and hitting the 7,500 open stores milestone outside of the US and Canada by 2010,” said Fred DeLuca, the company’s president and co-founder.
