US food retailer and wholesale distributor Supervalu has said it has agreed to buy certain assets that C&S Wholesale Grocers is to acquire from bankrupt food distributor and retailer Fleming.

Supervalu said C&S’ planned purchase of the Fleming assets was likely to gain bankruptcy court approval in the next few weeks.

After the approval is granted, Supervalu said it would be free to acquire Fleming’s operations in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Milwaukee and Massillon, Ohio, together with related assets, reported Dow Jones News Service.

Supervalu will also acquire the retail brands Festival Foods and Sentry Foods, as well as the licensing rights to the Jubilee Foods name in certain markets.

As part of the agreement, Supervalu is also set to acquire the Crestwood Bakery brand and its related assets.
