US-based supermarket retailer and distributor, Supervalu Inc has acquired nine Save-A-Lot store outlets from Super Discount Markets Inc, a company in which it holds a minority interest.

The acquisition forms part of Supervalu’s continuing restructuring activities, as the group seeks to expand its presence in the southeast market.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the company expects to see its shares increased by between seven to nine cents by fiscal 2003 as a result of its restructure.
