Networld Exchange Inc., the leading provider of business e-commerce services for the foodservice supply chain, Monday announced that Networld Exchange WorldCommerce(SM) has been deployed by Nobel/Sysco, a division of Sysco Corp. (NYSE:SYY).

The first Nobel/Sysco client to purchase food via the Networld Exchange system will be Vail Resorts Management Company of Vail, Colo., owner and operator of world-class ski resorts in Vail, Keystone, Breckenridge and Beaver Creek. The four resorts serviced by Sysco collectively buy more than $15 million in food and beverages annually through their 60+ restaurants and foodservice locations within this premier resort community.

Networld Exchange is the leading provider of Internet-based business-to-business e-commerce service linking manufacturers, distributors and retail outlets in an end-to-end foodservice trading hub. Networld Exchange’s system supports manufacturers and distributors on the supply side and small, medium and large companies on the buy side — all points in the purchasing chain. No additional hardware or software is required. All buyers need is a desktop computer with a modem and Web browser.

“Networld Exchange has allowed us to offer a state-of-the-art online service by integrating with Vail Resort’s in-house purchasing/inventory systems,” Chris DeWitt, president, Nobel/Sysco, said. “Buyers can now search through their product guide online, enjoy the convenience of shopping 24 hours a day and be assured of real-time pricing.”

Networld Exchange WorldCommerce integrates easily to any EDI, OBI, XML or legacy back office system and lets all buyers in the trading hub shop and purchase suppliers’ complete product lines.

“To be a true trading hub for a vertical industry, an e-commerce system needs to integrate to current legacy and purchasing systems,” John Schachat, executive vice president and chief technology officer, Networld Exchange, explained. “The second key is offering features that make buying supplies online extremely easy. Our system is totally intuitive. Buyers can be up on the system, making purchases in minutes.

“Networld Exchange has created a purchasing service for businesses that is similar to the one Amazon.com set up for the book buying consumer,” Schachat continued. “It’s extremely sophisticated, but all that technology is transparent to the user. Once buyers find out how convenient it is to order online with Networld Exchange, they want all their suppliers on board.”

Fast Solution for Foodservice Companies

Vail Resorts’ purchasing department had been lobbying suppliers for an online solution.

“We have been waiting a long time to get the chance to order online from our suppliers because we were convinced that using an automated system would make us more efficient and would be convenient for our chefs. Networld Exchange was the only solution that demonstrated it could easily integrate to our back office systems,” Michael Kubat, director of Corporate Purchasing for Vail Resorts, said.

“Now our chefs can order supplies whenever they are free — at midnight, if they want to, and several times a day, if they remember something else they need.”

Kubat was also pleased with the special features Networld Exchange offered, including item matching, a bidding module, catch weight support, broken case control, comprehensive, online reports, rebate tracking, standard order recall and access to the whole range of suppliers from small to large.

“We meet with our suppliers seasonally to test new food products and update our menus,” Kubat explained. “Networld’s search capabilities allows us to review new product information in advance online, which makes menu redesign a much easier process.”

Networld Exchange’s system also provides smooth integration between the resorts and Nobel/Sysco.

“Our chefs’ orders go directly to suppliers who confirm them back to us. This gives us a way for our accounting department to automatically reconcile purchase orders with our invoicing systems,” Kubat said. “We found Networld Exchange’s online service substantially reduces cycle time in the ordering process, cuts costs and, more importantly, helps us provide superior service to the millions of customers who have come to expect the highest quality service at Vail resorts.”

One of the benefits of the Networld Exchange service is the automation of monthly invoices and payment.

Networld Exchange’s service also does away with pricing errors; since supplier prices are updated frequently by distributors and the system does the calculations, eliminating human error.

Networld Exchange WorldCommerce employs advanced server, database, network, security and operating system technology to provide a sophisticated, scalable, maintainable platform.
