Snack cake maker the Tasty Baking Company has announced rises in sales and net income for the second quarter ended 25 June 2005.
Sales in the second quarter were $69.6m, compared with $64.8m in the same period a year ago, while net income in the quarter was $886,000, compared with $654,000 a year ago.
For the first half sales were $135.5m, compared with $133.2m a year ago, while net income was $1.4m, compared with $1.1m.
Route net sales growth was driven by sales of the Sensables product line, an increase in Family Pack sales volume, and a reduced rate of product returns, the company said.
Gross margin in the second quarter 2005 was 34.2%, an increase of 3.0 percentage points over the comparable quarter a year ago. This increase in gross margin was a result of improved net sales price realization while the company’s cost per case sold remained unchanged from last year.
