The Hain Food Group the leading natural and organic food company, and Celestial Seasonings, Inc., the market leader in specialty teas, today announced that shareholders of both companies had overwhelmingly approved their merger, further establishing Hain’s position as the leader in natural foods with a leading share in 13 of the top 15 market categories.
Beginning today, the combined company will be named The Hain Celestial Group, Inc. and will continue to trade under the stock symbol HAIN.
Irwin Simon, chairman, president and chief executive officer of The Hain Celestial Group, said, “I am excited by the opportunities that the merger creates for the shareholders, customers and employees of both companies. Celestial brings a powerful brand, mass market expertise and valuable employees to Hain. We look forward to exploring new possibilities for distribution of the Hain and Celestial brands through specialty natural foods, retail mass, food service and international channels.”
As a result of the completion of the merger, Mo Siegel, former chairman of Celestial Seasonings, has become vice-chairman and a member of the Board of Directors of The Hain Celestial Group. The Company also announced that Steve Hughes, former president and CEO of Celestial Seasonings, has left to pursue other interests. The Hain Celestial Group named Walt Freese, formerly general manager, Celestial Seasonings brand of Celestial Seasonings, Inc., as senior vice-president/general manager, Celestial Seasonings. He will report directly to Irwin Simon. “We are very excited that Walt Freese will supervise The Hain Celestial Group’s tea brands. He has great experience running the operations of Celestial Seasonings, as well as an excellent rapport with our valuable employees who have been involved in making Celestial Seasonings such an impressive brand,” concluded Mr. Simon.
