Transora was formed last spring to connect major consumer companies to retailers, distributors and suppliers, and chief business officer Rick Herbst is confident about the potential of this new deal, explaining: “Ariba Sourcing and eBreviate are very similar in terms of their functionality and experience, so we expect them to serve our members very well.”

They will be providing the technology to allow Transora members to locate suppliers over the net, negotiate contracts and run their own online auctions, all without the necessity of extensive consulting help.

The terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed, but executives at eBreviate revealed that its one-year contract is worth around US$2m. Vice president of net markets, Aaron Graham, commented: “This deal with Transora is very exciting for us. We were able to show Transora and its member companies that they can realize tremendous value and efficiencies using our technology.”

Transora members currently include 54 of the world’s largest consumer package-goods companies, including Sara Lee, Kraft, Unilever and Procter & Gamble, and these will relish the opportunity to conduct online auctions to source and purchase commodities and raw materials from a large number of suppliers, saving both money and time.
