Chicago area supermarkets are changing. Soon, consumers will find tuna fish in a pouch, not a can. Spaghetti sauce and soups will be packaged in clear plastic containers. Pouches holding food, snacks, confections, flour and even pet food will “stand up” and feature reclosable seals. UPC codes will be replaced by electronic chips embedded in the package.

For five days, Chicago’s McCormick Place will be the capital of the world’s packaging market as host to PACK EXPO International. An estimated 80,000 packaging engineers, brand marketers and CEO’s from all parts of the world will be in Chicago’s McCormick Place, November 5-9, 2000, attending PACK EXPO International, the world’s largest packaging exposition in 2000.

PACK EXPO International is the pre-eminent exposition and conference for the $450 billion global packaging industry. More than 1,500 exhibitors, covering more than 1.3 million net square feet will exhibit their innovative packaging technologies to Fortune 500 companies and any and all consumer and industrial goods manufacturers. Some of the packaging technologies to be exhibited include extended shelf life packaging of perishable products, robotics, security applications against brand counterfeiting, protective packaging for e-commerce transactions and breathable plastics to enhance fruits and vegetables.

Co-located with PACK EXPO International is the International Exposition for Food Processors (IEFP 2000), the official show of The Food Processing Machinery & Supplies Association (FPM&SA). IEFP 2000 adds more than 200,000 net square feet of food and beverage processing innovations and solutions. Visitors will be able to attend both shows with one badge.

Concurrent with the show, Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI) will host the highly acclaimed “Packaging Solutions 2000 Conference,” featuring 80 speakers from around the world addressing important packaging issues and trends.
