Springdale, Ark.-based meat behemoth Tyson Foods has welcomed a 5 March ruling by Judge Ricardo Urbina of the US District Court for the District of Columbia that Tyson’s “probationary term expired on 11 January 2002”.

As part of its probation, Tyson revealed that it has developed a company-wide program that promotes compliance with all federal, state and local laws. This program, which it says will be continued, has been lauded as an industry-leading example of corporate responsibility.

The court also made it clear that any further consideration of a change in Tyson’s probationary status would be delayed until after a final resolution of the INS case in Tennessee.
