Weight-loss service provider Weight Watchers International has announced a third-quarter increase in net revenues of 31% to US$189.2m, compared to $144.1m in the third quarter of 2001.
Attendance at the company’s US meetings increased and worldwide sales of Weight Watchers products grew 44%. Net income was $36.8m compared to $15.7m in the prior year’s third quarter.
For the first nine months of 2002, net revenues grew 30% to $619.6m compared to $478.3m in the first nine months of 2001. Worldwide attendance growth in company-owned operations was 18%. In addition, worldwide product sales increased 40% over the prior year period. Net income for the nine months was $115.1m compared to $64.3m in the prior year’s period.
