WholeSoy Foods, LLC, today introduced a new line of fully cooked, easy to prepare and great tasting soyfood products at the Food Marketing Institute Show. Marketed under the Heartland Fields brand name, Soy Barbeque(TM), Soy Steak Strips(TM) and Italian-Style Soy Sausage(TM) are the first three entrees the company is introducing. Soy Barbeque is the company’s first soyfood product that will be available to consumers, and is the industry’s first prepared soy barbecue.

“Heartland Fields products are completely different from any other soyfoods available on the market today,” says John Schillinger, president of WholeSoy Foods, Des Moines. “They’re made with proprietary soybean varieties specifically developed for soyfoods and a new processing technology that greatly enhances the taste and texture of soyfoods. Taking these extra measures ensures we’re offering consumers better tasting soyfoods that have high quality nutritional value. When consumers try our products they can’t believe they are eating something that’s actually good for them.”

Heartland Fields Soy Barbeque will be sold in a 16-ounce microwaveable tray. One serving size (one-third cup) contains 140 calories, 8 grams of soy protein, 1.5 grams of fat and no saturated fat. Additionally, it is packed with isoflavones and complete soy protein. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommends that 25 grams of soy protein a day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Heartland Fields Soy Barbeque will be found in the frozen food section in grocery stores. The product is convenient to prepare since it is microwaveable or can be cooked on the stovetop or in a slowcooker. “We’re extremely excited to offer these unique entrees,” says Schillinger. “These product introductions are in response to consumers’ interest in soyfoods as a staple product, not just a snack food or added ingredient.”

Unlike many other soyfoods, all of Heartland Fields soyfoods are made from identity-preserved, non-genetically modified soybeans grown by Midwest producers. Controlled manufacturing allows WholeSoy Foods to provide product for the organic as well as the non-organic buying consumer.

Heartland Fields Soy Barbeque will be available beginning May 22 in selected grocery retail stores, institutional food services and health food stores.
