Valeo Foods has invested EUR1m (US$1.1m) to upgrade production of its Odlums flour and home baking business as part of a push behind the brand that could see it expand in export markets.
The Irish company has upgraded its Odlums production facility in Portarlington, County Laois and "renovated and modernised" the home baking brand. The company has launched over 20 products including organic and gluten-free lines.
Part of the investment has seen Valeo set up an in-house R&D unit to support the development of more new products.
The company hopes its efforts will expand Odlums' sales in Ireland and the group is also eyeing export opportunities.
Valeo Foods chief commercial officer Oliver Sutherland said: "We are now in the next phase of growth for the iconic Odlums brand and are excited about the export opportunity that exists. Through our continued focus on innovation and new product development, we look forward to growing the brand in Ireland and abroad."
Valeo declined to comment on which international markets it sees as offering the greatest potential for Odlums. However, the company did reveal it intends to use the supply chains of the company’s newly integrated European brands, Balconi in Italy and Rowse Honey in the UK.
