Le Hung Cuong, a 22-year-old gourmet chef, died on his way to hospital in the northern port city of Haiphong after being bitten by a venomous sea snake.
Cuong was preparing to cook the half-metre sea snake, which lashed out at his left hand after he extracted it from a glass aquarium. Its blood was to be used to create the restaurant’s speciality porridge dish.
Nguyen Lien, the owner of the restaurant that employed Cuong, told local papers: “It was bad luck for him and for our restaurant.
“He was careless and did not use the plastic gloves as required.”
