In an attempt to control animal-borne disease epidemics, Vietnam plans to fully or partially industrialise its animal husbandry sector in 2006.

As part of the plan, Asia Pulse reported, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is preparing a policy to subsidise large-scale pig farms. It is also hoped that the initiative will reduce production costs and improve quality.

Additionally, the Ministry plans to invest in an artificial insemination project and modern feed processing technology for cattle.

The Vietnamese Government hopes that throughout 2006 the nation’s pig stock will increase by 2.1 million animals and that the cattle stock will grow by 5.5 million head, including 5,000 dairy cows.
