Wessanen announced this morning (9 March) that it has completed its exit of the US and transitioned to a "pure player" in "healthy and sustainable food" after selling subsidiary American Beverage Corporation.

The move is part of Wessanen's strategy to grow its brands – including Bjorg, Allos, Alter Eco, Bonneterre, Clipper and Zonnatura – in the healthy and sustainable food market in Europe.

Christophe Barnouin, CEO, commented: "The divestment of ABC… is our final step in becoming a focused player in healthy and sustainable food in Europe. This is also what we are and what we stand for: making food that is good for people and our planet by focusing on organic, fair trade, vegetarian and good nutrition."

ABC was sold to Harvest Hill Beverage Co, a portfolio company of private equity group Brynwood Partners, for around US$55m on a cash and debt-free basis.
