Dutch food group Wessanen has agreed to sell its French wholesale business Bio-Distrifrais.

Wessanen announced the deal, struck with an unnamed “French entrepreneur”, this morning (9 December). Financial details were not disclosed. Officials at Wessanen could not be reached for immediate comment.

In a stock exchange filing, Wessanen said Bio-Distrifrais is a French wholesaler of fruits and vegetables, employing 44 people. It generated net revenue of EUR19m (US$23.5m) in 2013.

The company said the deal was “in line with Wessanen’s strategy of further building its own brands such as Bjorg, Allos, Alter Eco, Bonneterre, Clipper and Zonnatura in the healthy and sustainable food market in Europe”.

In October, Wessanen said it had once again started a process to try to sell US drinks business ABC, which it hopes to complete “in the coming months”. A disposal would, the company said, make it a “pure player in healthy and sustainable food”. Wessanen has attempted in the past to offload ABC but has so far failed to find a buyer.
