Whitworths, the UK supplier of dried fruit, nut and seed products, has launched a range of snacks it says offers consumers a healthier – and tasty – option.

The company has developed Whitworths Fusions, bagged snacks that contain a mix of fruits and nuts. The range will permanently contain three varities – Apple Cinnamon Jumble, Bountiful Coconutty and Berryfruit Madness. Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose will stock the first two of those lines. Berryfruit Madness will be on sale at Tesco.

Whitworths said a limited-editition alternative will also be available that will change twice a year. The first of those products is Chilli Nutty Cocoa-Chaos, for which Whitworths has secured listings at Tesco and Morrisons.

Phil Gowland, head of marketing at Whitworths, claimed Fusions was "a snacking option that is healthier with no sacrifice on taste".

The Fusions range is also the first Whitworths line to use new packaging for the company's entire portfolio.

Private-equity firm Equistone Partners acquired a majority stake in Whitworths in 2013. Equistone bought the stake from European Capital in a transaction valuing the business at GBP90m (US$137.1m).
