UK chilled soup manufacturer The Yorkshire Provender Co. has invested GBP2m (US$3.1m) into expanding its production facilities.

The company’s existing production site is in Melmerby, North Yorkshire, where the new factory will also be built. It has been granted planning permission for the new site which will be built next year, and is “double the size of the current one,” a spokesperson told just food.

The firm supplies soup to Waitrose and Tesco in the UK along with a number of independent food halls and farm shops.

The investment comes on the back of increasing demand.

“Yorkshire Provender has won new orders, is increasing its range and has recently developed a breakfast product which will be available in a UK coffee shop chain in 2015,” just-food was told.

As a result of the new investment, sales are expected to rise by 80% in the next three years, the soup-maker anticipates. Thirty new jobs will also be created.
