Young's Seafood Grimsby plant could see up to 330 jobs go after the company lost a "vital Sainsbury's contract" according to workers union, Unite.
Yesterday (24 June), Young's issued a statement confirming the contract loss to supply fresh salmon and smoked salmon.

Unite said the potential job loss of two-thirds of the workforce was "extremely serious and worrying". Young’s Seafood has three plants in Grimsby employing a total of 2,000 workers.
Unite said it understood Young's had lost the Sainsbury's contract to Norweigian firm Marine Harvest.
"At present, we are not sure how many jobs will be lost. The company is looking to obtain new contracts to fill the void left by the loss of the contract to prepare, smoke, freeze and deliver salmon to Sainsbury’s. We will be working closely with management in the days and weeks to come to mitigate any job losses. At present, we can’t put a figure on the number of job losses, if any. The worst case scenario would be in the region of 330 jobs lost."
just-food understands that Young's announcement yesterday was not announcing the entrance into a formal consultation process and the company is yet to specify the expected number of redundancies. The company has, however, spoken to employees across both the Fraserburgh and Grimsby sites to make them aware of the news.
Young's declined to comment further on the news.
