A spokesperson for Spar told just-food that the convenience store format was developed based on research into customer behaviour combined with input from international Spar operators as well as Zimbabwe-based ones.

Spar said the stores have a “multitude of convenience factors” such as food-to-go offerings including ready meals, healthy snacks, barbecue packs, a juice bar and a Treehouse smoothie bar.

The company opened the first two stores at the end of last year, with plans to open a further ten by June this year.
