Anglia Crown, the UK unit of foodservice group BonCulina, has entered administration.

Kroll confirmed in a statement that they were appointed administrators by the directors of Anglia Crown, which was trading under the BonCulina brand in the UK, on 10 November led by Benjamin Wiles and Robert Armstrong.

Anglia Crown had already ceased trading prior to the appointment, Kroll added in the statement provided to Just Food.

Parent company BonCulina snapped up meals manufacturer Anglia Crown in 2023. Financial terms for the Colchester, east-England-based business were not disclosed at the time. The UK unit provided meals for sectors including healthcare, education and corporate customers.

Just Food understands that around 130 Anglia Crown employees were made redundant after the business ceased trading.

Benjamin Wiles, a managing director at Kroll, said in the statement: "Our immediate priority is to review the position of the business and determine the best possible outcome for all stakeholders.

“We recognise this is an extremely difficult time for those who have been made redundant as a result of the administration, and we are committed to providing them with all appropriate guidance during this process."

Back in 2023, Anglia Crown marked the second deal struck in the UK by BonCulina. It bought hot food vendor Bon Appetit in 2021, just months after announcing its plans to expand in the country, pointing to the “strength” of its foodservice market.

“Acquiring Anglia Crown was the next logical step for BonCulina,” David Garland, BonCulina’s managing director, said at the time.

The last accounts filed with Companies House showed Anglia Crown generated sales of £20.2m ($26.4m) in the year to 31 December 2023 versus £17.7m in the corresponding 12 months.

It generated EBITDA of £350,138, compared to £206,010. Net profit after tax fell to £105,744 from £650,337.
