UK sausage manufacturer Delenco Foods has been acquired by Red Sky Food Group, an investor-backed venture set up this year to target protein companies.

The deal for London-based Delenco Foods, struck for an undisclosed sum, marks the second acquisition by Red Sky Food Group since its inception in April.

Formed to “acquire and scale high-quality, protein-focused meat manufacturing businesses”, the joint-venture operation snapped up Welsh meat producer Langford’s that same month.

Red Sky Food Group was set up by the investment fund Literacy Capital and former Meadow Foods CEO, and now executive chairman of the venture, Mark Chantler.

The investment in Langford's was a 50:50 split between the two, although financial terms were also not disclosed.

Delenco Foods was founded in 1963 and supplies retailers, foodservice customers, cruise lines, schools and butchers with fresh and frozen sausages.

Combined revenues of Delenco and Langford's will now sit at around £35m ($45.7m), according to a statement from Red Sky Food Group. The total workforce is 120 workers at two manufacturing sites in Welshpool, Wales, and Leyton in London.

Red Sky Food Group said the latest acquisition was “highly complementary” with Langford’s in terms of its product range and “geographic reach”.

However, it confirmed that both Langford’s and Delenco will continue to trade under their existing brands.

Delenco’s founders will remain involved in the business to support the transition and Josh Gethin will assume leadership across both Delenco and Langford’s.

Chantler said: "Richard and Jane Barber have spent their careers building an outstanding business, and we are committed to continuing Delenco’s success, while adding other high-quality meat manufacturing businesses to Red Sky.”
