Russian drone strikes have damaged a Mondelez International factory in north-east Ukraine, a member of the Ukrainian government has said.

According to Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, two Russian drones hit the US snacks giant’s factory in Trostianets in the north-east of the country

“Two Russian drone strikes damaged the plant’s premises and injured several employees. Fortunately, there were no casualties,” Sybiha posted on X.

“These systematic and deliberate Russian attacks on American business interests in Ukraine demonstrate that Russian aggression is not only a threat to Ukraine but a direct blow to American economic interests in Europe.”

Just Food has approached Mondelez for further information on the incident and on the operations at the site.

Trostianets is a city in Ukraine’s north-eastern Sumy region. It is located around 20 miles from the border between Ukraine and Russia.

Ukraine national broadcaster Supilne, citing the regional prosecutor’s office in Sumy, said five people – two men and three women – were injured as a result of the attack.

According to the broadcaster, the site was also hit on two other occasions earlier this year.

The factory was damaged in 2022 in the early weeks of the conflict. Mondelez had closed the site in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February that year.

The site was rebuilt and production resumed over the next two years in a phased manner. It makes products under brands including Milka, Oreo and Barny.

Mondelez has a factory close to Kyiv, the country’s capital, that manufactures savoury snacks, which was also damaged in 2022. The site’s local subsidiary also has an office in Kyiv.

The company does business in Russia, which accounted for 3.7% of its $38.5bn net revenues in 2025. By contrast, Ukraine generated 0.4% of Mondelez’s net revenues, according to the company’s annual report for last year.

“We have suspended new capital investments and our advertising spending in Russia, but as a food company with more than 2,500 employees in the country, we have not ceased operations because we believe that we play a role in the continuity of the food supply,” the annual report states.
